Gap Fellows Boarding Life
As a Gap Fellow you will be in a position of leadership. Your colleagues will be other teachers and your role in the school will be to bring your experience and skills to younger students. Between terms you will have the opportunity to travel in the British Isles and in Europe.
Gap fellows are assigned to a certain House (what we would call a dorm) where they will live and become part of the fabric of that small community. Many of the students' activities are centered in the House, and you may be asked to help out with drama, sports or social activities as well as the evening study periods.
Much of the responsibility of running the House falls to the pupils, to the Head of House and Prefects, a small group of senior boys or girls. Their main job, and yours as a BAEF Gap Fellow, is to set a good example for the younger pupils in the House. Yes, there are rules: drugs and smoking are forbidden, the use of alcohol confined usually to the school pub (if you are over 18). If the school is coeducational, certain visitation rules will apply.
