At the present rate of exchange, a year at an English school costs about the same as one at an American boarding school approximately $36,000 a year (or $12,000 a term) for tuition, room and board. Air fare and vacation expenses are additional. The BAEF charges an application fee of $250, a fee of $450 for evaluation and school placement (payable once a place is obtained in an agreed-upon school), and a guardianship fee of $150 per term to cover a portion of the expenses of the support services the Foundation offers during the time in England. Scholarships in the form of partial tuition remission are sometimes available on the basis of need at certain schools for students attending for the 13th year. Students currently attending American independent boarding schools, who plan to study in England and then return to their schools in the States, should discuss with school officials the possibility of continuing to pay their current school charges to cover the cost of studying in England.
